This striking modular sofa is a refined example of high-end Norwegian modern design from the late 1960s–early 1970s, combining architectural presence with exceptional comfort and craftsmanship. Composed of three generously scaled seating modules, the sofa is constructed around a solid stained oakwood frame with exposed uprights and stretchers, lending the piece a confident, sculptural character.
The seating and back cushions are upholstered in luxurious, thick aniline leather, richly padded and button-tufted, now displaying a beautifully developed patina that speaks to both quality and age. The reverse reveals a particularly sophisticated construction: full leather sling backs, individually tensioned and secured with multiple adjustable saddle-leather straps and buckles. This functional yet expressive system allows for subtle adjustment of comfort over time and reflects the Scandinavian emphasis on longevity, repairability, and intelligent design.
Hand-laced leather detailing along the lower edges further elevates the piece, underscoring the artisanal nature of its manufacture. The dialogue between supple leather and robust wood frame places this sofa within the tradition of Norwegian lounge furniture associated with designers such as Ingmar Relling, though here interpreted with more substantial, fully upholstered cushions and a notably luxurious sensibility.
Visually powerful yet inviting, this sofa offers a rare balance of rustic modern warmth and refined Nordic elegance. An outstanding statement piece, ideal for collectors and interiors seeking depth, authenticity, and enduring comfort.
