A rare and striking illuminated wall sculpture attributed to Cosack Leuchten, one of Germany’s most innovative lighting manufacturers of the postwar era. We have 2 pieces available and these lamps exemplify the studio’s exploration of light as both a functional and artistic medium. Each piece features a composition of thick, hand-assembled clear glass chunks, mounted in dynamic relief over a glass backplate accented with bold, colored elements. The color itself is not inherent in the glass but rather achieved through cleverly positioned inserts—allowing light to refract, glow, and shift through the crystalline surfaces in a deeply architectural way.
The brass-toned metal housing adds a warm contrast, grounding the expressive front with clean lines and high-quality construction typical of Cosack's mid-century and early Brutalist output. The result is a luminous, painterly object that reads as much like a sculptural glass work as it does a light fixture.
The glass backplates show some wear consistent with age, which beautifully complements the raw, textured character of the design—appearing almost intentional, as if integral to the lamp’s sculptural and artisanal quality. These wall lights would make a dramatic statement in a modernist interior, flanking a mirror or fireplace, or displayed as lighted art in a gallery wall context.
